Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and pol-pol. We have written them the way we write everything here: plainly first, then in full. The short version is the gist; the full terms below are what govern your use.
If anything here is unclear, write to us and we will explain it.
The short version
Your words are yours
Everything you write in a pol-pol stays yours. We only use it to run the thing: to show your half to the person you are writing with, and to keep your shared thread going. We do not sell it, and we do not train anyone else's models on it.
It costs nothing to start
Two living threads are free. Plus lifts the limit: 8 euros a month, or 45 euros a year for the first 500 founding members. You can cancel anytime, and you keep Plus until the period you paid for runs out.
You can leave whenever
End a connection or delete your account at any time. When you delete your account, your name comes off the shared threads automatically, so the other person keeps their half of the history without your identity attached.
A computer suggests the questions
AI suggests the weekly questions, drawing on what you and your partner share inside pol-pol. You have the final say, and the questions can be adjusted before they lock. The short reflections are written by AI too. It never speaks for you and never sends anything on your behalf.
Be kind in here
pol-pol is for real, two-sided connection. Do not use it to harass, harm, or send anything illegal. We can close an account that does.
The full terms
1. Who can use pol-pol
You must be at least 16 years old to use pol-pol. By creating an account you confirm that you are, and that the information you give us is accurate.
These terms form a binding agreement between you and pol-pol. If you do not agree to them, do not use the service.
2. The service
pol-pol is a weekly two-sided writing ritual: you and another person answer the same questions about your lives and read each other's answers once both halves are in. We provide the service as it is and may add, change, or remove features over time. We may suspend or discontinue parts of it, and will give reasonable notice where we can.
3. Your account
You are responsible for your account and for keeping access to it secure. You may hold one account. Sign-in is by magic link or a connected Google account; keep the email or Google account you sign in with safe, because access to it is access to your pol-pols.
4. Your content
Everything you write, record, or upload in pol-pol remains yours. We do not claim ownership of it.
You grant pol-pol a limited licence to store your content and show it to the person you are writing with, solely to operate the service for you. We do not sell your content and do not use it to train third-party AI models. How your content is handled when you delete your account is set out in our Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
Use pol-pol for genuine connection. Do not use it to harass, threaten, or harm another person, to post unlawful content, or to interfere with or abuse the service or other people's use of it. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these rules.
6. Plus, pricing and renewal
pol-pol is free to use within the free limit. Plus is an optional paid subscription that lifts the limit. It costs 8 euros per month. The first 500 founding members can instead take a founder rate of 45 euros per year, which stays at that price for as long as the subscription remains active.
Plus renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your profile; cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep Plus until the end of the period you have already paid for. Payments are processed by Stripe.
7. Your right to cancel (EU)
If you are a consumer in the EU, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase. Because Plus gives you immediate access to a digital service, by starting your subscription you ask us to begin straight away and acknowledge that you lose this 14-day right of withdrawal once the service has started. You can still cancel future renewals at any time, as described above.
8. Refunds
Plus is billed in advance for each period. We do not refund partial periods; when you cancel you keep access until the period you paid for ends. Nothing here limits any refund rights you have under applicable consumer law.
9. AI
The weekly questions in pol-pol are suggested by AI, working only from what you and your partner share inside the service. You can review and adjust them before they lock, so the final set is yours. The short reflections shown alongside your pols are AI-generated. The AI never writes or sends a pol on your behalf and never speaks as you. More detail is on our AI page.
10. Ending a connection or account
You can end a connection or delete your account at any time. When you delete your account we anonymise your identity on any shared threads, so the other person keeps their half of the history without your name attached. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail of what is kept and what is removed.
11. Disclaimers and liability
pol-pol is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows. We do our best to keep it running but do not guarantee it will always be available or error-free.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, pol-pol is not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
12. Changes, law and contact
We may update these terms. When we make material changes we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know in the app. Continuing to use pol-pol after a change means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of Croatia, and the courts of Croatia have jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections you have where you live. Questions? Write to us at the contact address in our Privacy Policy.
